A game that was literally dreamed up
My name is Gabriel Leonoudakis and I am the creator of Counter Mage. I am an artist, designer, and educator from San Francisco. Games were always an essential part of my life, as I would connect with other people through them. If there was a game happening, I wanted to be part of it. I grew up playing all kinds of games like Connect Four, Chess, Stratego, Magic The Gathering, Hero's Quest, and many others. A few friends and I were avid Magic players right when it came out and it used to bother me how we would buy new cards and the "power creep" would change the whole dynamic of the game. I wanted to make a game that took the parts of all the games I enjoyed as a kid and turn it into a fair and balanced game where people could find new surprises every time they played. As I wracked my mind for years, one night I played the game you see before you in my dream. When I woke up, I quickly wrote the rules down and made a simple version that I could play with my girlfriend at the time (who is now my wife). It would take 10 more years of play testing and changing rules and designs to finally get it to where it is today. The game is finally ready to be shared with the world.
